96 year-old CF Board Member receives the 2014 Faye McCoy Positive Aging Award.

October 1, Jacob D. "Jake" Goering of North Newton, KS is being awarded the 2014 Faye McCoy Positive Aging Award in Manhattan by the LeadingAge Kansas organization for his active approach to aging while living at Kidron Bethel Retirement Center in North Newton. LeadingAge Kansas is a non-profit supporting organization for retirement centers and nursing homes in the state.
Jake, who will celebrate his 97th birthday in January 2015, is a Board member of the North Newton Community Foundation. He has been described as a patient listener and a man of relatively few words, But when he speaks, reasonableness and wisdom are heard. Jake's love of the outdoors and his commitment to physical fitness inspired him to provide leadership in the development of Sand Creek Trail, a recreational nature trail that begins on the Bethel College campus in North Newton. In January 2012, he accompanied a group of Bethel College students and staff on an interterm trip to China. The attached photo, taken on his 94th birthday, shows Jake receiving a a lovely birthday cake from admiring Chinese acquaintances in that country.
