KACF Regional Training: Financial Administration for Community Foundations

21, 22 and 23 of September, 2010

Location: Andover, Manhattan or Scott City

Two key components of financial administration for community foundations entail leading the foundation to financial sustainability and maintaining compliance with legal, regulatory, and accounting rules.

Join Wendy Horton, CPA for a day-long training as she discusses:

Financial Leadership for your foundation revolves around sustaining and evolving new ways to run your business.  New revenue sources – and new business models - need to evolve to achieve the foundation’s mission today and in the future.

New rules and regulations have rained down on community foundations in the last few years.  Compliance is critical to keep your foundation on the straight and narrow.  We will look at the rules around donor advised funds filtered through UPMIFA, PPA, and use of the variance power.

Session details include:

  • Financial Leadership – fee structures and budgets, new revenue streams, benchmarking, activity-based cost analysis, and forecasting
  • Jail bait - rules that could trip you up (or make you stronger)
  • Overview of key IRS filings and FASB Standards

Wendy is a Senior Advisor to the Community Foundation field.  She launched Community Foundation Insights (CF Insights) in 2006 as an initiative of the Council on Foundations and FSG Social Impact Advisors.  CF Insights serves community foundations through online operating model benchmarking and analysis, activity-based cost analysis, economic scenario planning, technical assistance, and primary research.  Before launching CF Insights, she was the Special Assistant to the President of a $3.5 billion mutual fund company and also served for nine years as the Chief Financial Officer of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
